The advocates who practice primarily on the original side do not get much exposure to the criminal justice delivery system. A workshop was held in order to meet the need to familiarize the members with criminal law and the criminal justice administration.
The faculty comprised of experts from varied sides of the Criminal Justice delivery system. Hon’ble Mr. Justice V. M. Kanade addressed the members on the jurisprudential concepts in Criminal Law. Justice Kanade spoke on the Rule of Law and the Criminal Justice System.
Seasoned prosecutor Mr. Raja Thakre enlightened the participants on the fundamentals and finer nuances of procedure in Criminal Law i.e. right from lodging of a complaint, registering of a First Information Report, Preliminary Enquiry, Investigations including custodial interrogation, bail, framing of charges, transfer of investigation to CBI etc.
Mr. Amit Desai, Senior Advocate shed light on the system of judicial review in criminal law including by way of writ petitions, petitions under section 482 CRPC, revision before Sessions Court and High Court, discharge applications and other judicial remedies
The hall was over flowing with nearly 180 participants (both members and non members). At the end of the workshop, the participants finally raised various issues of practical difficulties as also legal issues which were all patiently answered by the members of the faculty.
