In an event held in the Central Hall of the High Court of Judicature at Bombay, the Bombay Bar Association felicitated Hon’ble Mr. Justice R.F. Nariman on his elevation as the Judge of the Supreme Court of India. Prior to his elevation, Justice Nariman was a member of the Bombay Bar Association. The event was presided over by Hon’ble Justice V.K. Tahilramani and was attended by the learned Judges of the High Court of Judicature at Bombay.
In an event anchored by the Hon. Secretary Dr. Birendra Saraf, the President Dr. Milind Sathe, Senior Advocate, welcomed and felicitated Hon’ble Justice Nariman. He said it was matter of great pride of the Bombay Bar Association that one of their members was the fifth person in the history of India to be elevated directly from the Bar to the Supreme Court.
Though the Hon’ble Chief Justice Mr. Mohit Shah was unable to attend the function on account of personal reasons for which he was traveling, the Hon’ble Chief Justice sent a congratulatory message which was read out by the President Dr. Milind Sathe.
Hon’ble Justice V.K.Tahilramani also spoke on the occasion and felicitated Justice Nariman on his elevation.
Speaking at the event, Mr. I. M. Chagla, Senior Advocate, who has known Justice Nariman right from the days when he joined the Bar of the High Court of Judicature at Bombay, spoke about the various qualities of Justice Nariman as a jurist. He regaled the audience with various interesting incidents and anecdotes from the days when Justice Nariman joined the chambers to which he belonged.
Justice Nariman then addressed the gathering. In an addressed full of various historical incidents in judiciary, he emphasized the need for fearless dispensation of justice.
The Vice President Mr. Nitin Thakker proposed the vote of thanks. This was followed by high tea.
After the function in the High Court, there was a dinner organized at the Cooperage Football pavilion when Justice Nariman met the members of the Bar.
